Unfortunately, there are only a few direct connections from industrialised countries to Guyana. Caribbean Airlines (ex BWIA) operates three flights per week from the US to Guyana. North American lands at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (with the international abbreviation “GEO” for Georgetown) only once per week. No European country is directly linked to Guyana; tourists will have to pass either through the US (with its traumatizing visa- and general surveillance conditions) or through other Caribbean Islands such as Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago (we advise this!). Another alternative frequently used by travellers from the Netherlands or its neighbouring European countries goes through Surinam.
The Guyanese Government is aware of this problem, and we hope that new routes will be offered soon for our visitors’ convenience. Check out the below mentioned web sites for latest information on flights to Guyana.
Visitors from Canada (check the site of Air Canada) or Europe (check German flights of Condor, British airlines <British Midland and British Airways> to the Caribbean Islands) are advised to get in contact with their regular travel agents to learn about the best ways reaching Guyana. The booking of French airlines to French-speaking Caribbean Islands would require some island-hopping to reach Guyana.
